O TSE officially opened the source code for electronic voting machines to the 2024 municipal elections. The measure was carried out during a ceremony held this Wednesday (4) at the agency’s headquarters, in Brasília, and is part of the process that aims to inspect the equipment
As is customary, the code is open one year before the elections and must remain that way so that supervisory entities can audit the ballot boxes. The ceremony, in turn, was led by the president of the TSE, minister Alexandre de Moraes, who spoke regarding the event:
The TSE is open to all those who want to monitor and improve the way we operate our democracy. We are sure that in 2024 we will have another democratic cycle, another election with transparency to solidify our democracy
In addition to Moraes, the event was attended by the Federal Public Ministry, Federal Police, political parties and the Brazilian Bar Association. In this sense, supervisory entities will have 40 opportunities to audit electronic voting machines.
But what is source code and what is it for?
In general, it is a set of computer programming languages, distributed online and used to determine the function of each program. In fact, cell phone applications, computer operating systems and internet pages are all composed of codes like this.
