In the Grand Marais, on Raphael Sommer’s field in Montilier, the tubers are taken out of the ground and loaded into trailers. “Today it is ideal for harvesting even if it is a little too dry. When it’s below five degrees, it’s not good because it can cause blue spots on the potatoes,” says the farmer, adding that the harvest should end next Thursday. Friday evening, the potatoes will be delivered to the Frigemo factory in Cressier (NE), to be transformed into fries for McDonald’s Switzerland. Thursday morning, the two companies organized a visit, to which the press was invited, to explain how the famous McFries are made.
