One of the biggest FPS players announces that Counter Strike 2 will mark the end of the franchise. The former professional player reveals that he is worried regarding the future of the game.

Famous FPS streamer Shroud, and former professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player, has declared that the new Counter-Strike 2 might spell the end of the franchise. As he explained in a Twitch live on October 1, the new approach to CS 2 is not the right one for the sustainability of the game according to him. “I think the game is dying and it’s dead in two years. I really think so.” He elaborates by stating that certain details of the gameplay make the experience bad like “the smoke effect that they have to remove”. In addition, he believes that another problem will lead the game to its downfall: Valorant. He considers Riot Games’ game to be the “number 1” first-person shooter games that exist today. However, we must put things in context, because CS 2 is the most played game on the Steam platform and many players are still waiting before deciding.

As a reminder, CS 2 has been officially available since September 27 following long months of beta. It is the direct sequel to Counter Strike: Global Offensive which has remained one of the most played shooting games in recent years. Players therefore hope that this new version is as good as its predecessors with relevant new features.

Who is Shroud?

Shroud, for real Michael Grzesiek, is a Canadian streamer specializing in FPS. He has over 10 million followers on Twitch and is considered one of the greatest shooters in shooter history. Even to the point of receiving the reputation of “God of shooting”, because it excels in all games like Apex Legends and Overwatch. However, it was on CS:GO that he became known as a professional player, particularly for teams like Cloud9. It was with them that he won the fourth season of the ESL PRO League (CS: GO professional league) in 2016.
