Government parties refused to assign petitions on both important road projects to the Transport Committee
Vienna (OTS) – “The green-ideological hostility to drivers of the ÖVP and the Greens no longer knows any limits. As if the road construction blockade, which was probably ordered illegally by the eco-Marxist anti-motorist Minister Gewessler, wasn’t scandal enough, the two parties are also pushing aside legitimate citizens’ concerns without batting an eyelid,” FPÖ transport spokesman and General Secretary NAbg said today. Christian Hafenecker, MA and NAbg. Christian Lausch sharply criticized the “categorization” of the two petitions “Full four-lane expansion of the S3 between Stockerau and Hollabrunn” and “YES to the Traisental Expressway S34 and B334” in the National Council’s Committee for Petitions and Citizens’ Initiatives.
“The S3 expressway connects the eastern Weinviertel with Vienna and is also part of the European route 59 between Vienna and Prague. Since the construction of concrete barriers, the lanes between Obermallebarn and Großstelzendorf have been narrowed. In addition, the current construction method leads to road closures during renovation work and accidents, which means that all traffic has to be rerouted through the local areas of the surrounding communities. This not only affects road users, but above all the affected residents. A four-lane expansion of the S3 on the Stockerau-Hollabrunn stretch, as we libertarians and countless citizens have long been demanding, would therefore be urgently needed, especially to strengthen the region around Hollabrunn economically. “Black and Green don’t want to know anything regarding it and are leaving the population out in the cold,” said NAbg. Christian Lausch, member of the Committee for Petitions and Citizens’ Initiatives, whose application to assign the petition for the expansion of the S3, as well as that for the construction of the S34, to the responsible transport committee was rejected.
For the liberal transport spokesman and Secretary General NAbg. Christian Hafenecker, MA, the “scandalous pigeonholing of these citizens’ concerns” has once once more proven that the ÖVP is prepared to “sacrifice the future opportunities of the entire country on the green altar” for the sake of maintaining power. “The S34 is a road construction project that is indispensable not only for the central area of Lower Austria and has been promised to the population for decades. The Traisental Expressway would reduce traffic congestion for the city of St. Pölten and those bordering the B20, shorten travel times for commuters, improve the entire region economically and also reduce migration from the Lilienfeld district. By stopping the construction work that has already begun, the Green Minister Gewessler has made herself the ‘gravedigger’ of the entire region’s development opportunities and by going along with it, the ÖVP has both hands firmly on its shovel!” says Hafenecker.
