For the first time since its creation in 2015, the town of Fontaine-l’Evêque is hosting the French-speaking CoderDojo4Girlz convention. Throughout the followingnoon of this Saturday, October 7, Point 9 located on rue Louis Delattre in Fontaine-l’Evêque will host a 2023 edition reserved for girls aged 7 to 18. Electronics are increasingly present in everyday life. Whether for the operation of devices or video games, programming and coding are crucial elements intended to ensure the proper functioning of these devices and games.

In order to “demystify” this often little-known side which can seem complex, the Coder Dojo regularly organize training sessions in various cities across the country including Fontaine-l’Evêque. This year, it is therefore the city of nail makers which receives the annual women’s edition.

“We find that most of the participants in our Dojos are mainly boys. It’s a shame, because everyone can program and girls are no exception. This is why we are organizing a large Dojo especially for Belgian girls and young women. ”

One day a year, they have the opportunity to unleash their creativity on computer games, electronics, robots, etc. “With the Coaches, we show that programming is cool and that it is possible to do much more than just running or shooting games. In this way, we want to introduce CoderDojo to girls and try to involve them in the regular operation of CoderDojo through this day. We want to get more girls involved in the Dojos in their neighborhood.”

Beginners or advanced, shy or exuberant, book lovers, sports fanatics or fashion enthusiasts: there are no barriers at CoderDojo4Girlz.

Like Katie Bouman, a brilliant scientist who played an essential role in creating the first image of a black hole or Mira Murati, an iconic figure in the technology industry who is considered the creator of ChatGPT, it’s around other girls to discover why not a passion for coding and programming. Technology and creativity will come together on Saturday October 7 at Point 9 in Fontaine-l’Evêque.

Like all CoderDojo Belgium activities, CoderDojo4Girlz is completely free. If this Saturday’s edition is exclusively reserved for girls, the next one for everyone is planned for October 21.
