While some players criticize Starfield and compare it to Cyberpunk 2077, a developer from CD Projekt RED defends Bethesda Softworks’ action-RPG.
The release of Starfield on September 6 was eagerly awaited by players. However, although it was well received by most people, many were also disappointed. While some have criticized the gameplay, others fault the space RPG for poor animations. A video game critic named @SynthPotato notably published a very strong opinion on his Twitter account. In particular, he says he likes Starfield, but that the “Creation Engine must disappear”. The player explains that “returning to Cyberpunk puts into perspective how outdated Starfield’s dialogue animations are”. In the rest of his message, he details: “I really feel more and more critical of Starfield following returning to Cyberpunk, with constant loading screens, horrible dialogue camera and dull animations”. In response to this criticism, Cyberpunk 2077 developer Patrick K. Mills came to Starfield’s defense:
I like starfield a lot, so I’m not getting involved in the core criticism here, but I will say that the way they handle cinematics vs 2077 is not down to engine so much as it is tools and design. Related but not the same. https://t.co/l1rJNFlBoe

I really like Starfield, so I’m not getting involved in substantive criticism here, but I will say that how they handle cutscenes compared to 2077 isn’t so much regarding the engine as it is regarding the tools and design. It’s related, but it’s not the same thing.
In the Twitter thread, Patrick K. Mills then adds that Starfield has “certain sequences that are staged in a more refined way”. The developer also highlights the fact that the RPG “dedicates its resources to giving maximum freedom to players”.

Lots of improvements to Cyberpunk
As a reminder, Cyberpunk 2077 is an RPG that takes place in a dystopian and futuristic world. The universe is also inspired by the paper role-playing game of the same name and presents players with a universe governed by corporations. It is available on PC, PS4 and PS5, Xbox Series and One and when it first launched in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 was not a great success. It was following numerous updates that the game became a success. Recently, a DLC called Cyberpunk 2077 – Phantom Liberty and a free update (2.0) were also released.
