Looking for a metroidvania that is as sublime as it is exciting? This Xbox Game Studios game is on sale for a few more hours.
When we talk regarding the successes of Xbox Game Studios, it’s hard not to mention Ori and the Will of the Wisps, a little nugget that has become a cult favorite from Moon Studios. This continuation of a first part (rated 19/20 in our columns, all the same) equally acclaimed by the whole world takes place while the player has defeated Kuro and restored the woods of Nibel to their beautiful colors of yesteryear. We find the same hero, the little creature Ori who lives in his peaceful home with Naru and Gumo. But of course, everything turns into drama and you soon find yourself embarked on a new adventure which is very reminiscent of that of Blind Forest.
Genre-wise, we’re in a Metroidvania with platform elements and a very good dose of action. What we like regarding this part is undoubtedly the artistic direction which is flawless, the rhythm of the adventure, the fights which are this time much more dynamic and interesting and all the bosses very impressive. We only note that the side quests are sometimes there to fill in and that the progress is fairly standard overall. For our part, it’s still a nice 18/20.
At first glance, Ori and the Will of the Wisps appears to be a sort of hormone-driven best of Blind Forest. It offers more numerous and spectacular escape sequences, more diverse platform phases, and passages playing on darkness straight from the Definitive Edition. Some will see it as a slight repetition, others as a strong homage – Conclusion of our test.
If you are interested in the adventure, know that Ori and the Will of the Wisps is currently reduced at -75%, showing the price of €7.49 instead of €49.98. But be careful, there are only a few hours left to enjoy it.
Acheter Ori and the Will of the Wisps au prix de 7,49€ sur Steam.
A studio with highly anticipated projects
Remember that this is an opportunity to catch up on the developer’s catalog. At the start of the year, the Ori studio teased its next project which will be inspired by Souls, Diablo and The Legend of Zelda, no less. “Since people always ask me the question: no, Moon is not doing Ori 3 at the moment. And it has nothing to do with Microsoft, I’m sure they would have been delighted if we had made one,” co-founder Thomas Mahler said earlier. And recently added: “Ori was our “Mario”, this is our “Zelda”. This was my thought when I started prototyping our new project in 2015. We then signed on with Wisps, which allowed us to dedicate more time to this project so that we might then make it a standalone ARPG whole“. For the moment, no news yet on this new project, we only know that it has been in active development for 4 years and will be published by Private Division.
