Under the motto “Argentines: Let’s get excited once more. Let’s make it worth it.” Institute for Business Development of Argentina (IDEA) takes place from today until next Friday in Mar del Plata the 59th Annual Colloquium of the entity, its traditional business meeting.

In advance of the most important business forum in the country, the presence of the three main presidential candidates was announced. The only one confirmed so far is Patricia Bullrich, who will speak on Thursday morning.

However, the highlight of the first day was the speech by the President of the Nation, Alberto Fernández. The president spoke for one hour and ten minutesin which he reviewed the four years of his administration, made indirect references to the proposals of the different presidential candidateswithout proper names, and was encouraged to draw a horizon of opportunities for the country in the face of what is to come.

“During the pandemic, public health saved the lives of 9.7 million people.”

In the first section of his presentation, The President focused on highlighting the incidence of the pandemic, war and droughtas the three milestones that marked the fate of his period at the head of the Executive Branch.

«We entered the pandemic in debt and without any type of help. And in the midst of a scenario of global decline, our product fell by 9.9% »he indicated. In that sense, he valued the role of public health during Covid. «The WHO indicates that 10 million people were infected in Argentina. And in our country 130,000 deaths were recorded. It means that “Public health saved the lives of 9.7 million people.”

In relation to the war in Ukraine, the president pointed out that Argentina won due to the rise in grain prices, but lost due to the increase in the cost of the energy it imported, and the balance was negative. “We lost $4.94 billion in 2022 as a result of the deterioration in energy prices due to the war in Ukraine,” he said.

mercy

The President did not mention any of the candidates by name or surname, but he did make reference to their proposals. Regarding the libertarian, he criticized “that many raise the possibility of privatizing public health.”

In another passage, he spoke of “the liberals” in clear allusion to Javier Milei. «I can’t believe when I hear liberals question public education. Because they do not follow the example of two liberals like Alberdi and Sarmiento, who are the fathers of public education,” he harangued.

“Liberals should follow the example of two liberals like Alberdi and Sarmiento, who are the fathers of public education”

When referring to Argentina’s entry into the BRICS, I also take the opportunity to criticize the libertarian. «I hear some say ‘if I win the elections I will leave the BRICS.’ It’s crazy. The BRICS are not communism. The BRICS raise the possibility of negotiating internally with a currency other than the dollar, but you can be part of the BRICS and relate to the US and Europe,” he indicated.

Bullrich

When talking regarding justice, the president followed Patricia Bullrich’s statements regarding the possibility of recording the conversations of the prisoners and their lawyers. “I heard that some propose using intelligence to spy on prisoners,” Fernández introduced the topic.

“We do not have operators in justice,” he added. «Nobody’s cell phones are interdicted by the State. Intelligence has focused on foreign policy. And we have significantly reduced the reserved expenses »he stated.

«We must bring the university to the student and we must also improve the quality of public education. The two things are trues”

When reviewing data on educational matters, Alberto Fernández took advantage of the opportunity to once once more delve into Patricia Bullrich’s criticism of the creation of new universities. «I definitely think there is a lack of universities, not excesses.he indicated.

He added that “we do not have to take the student to the university, we have to take the university to the student.
We must also improve the quality of public education. Both things are true,” he added.

Massa

Without mentioning the Unión por la Patria candidate, President Alberto Fernández highlighted a series of economic data that has Sergio Massa as the protagonist. In this sense, he valued the reduction in unemployment, the highest rate of economic activity in seven years, and the development of public works in his four years of government.

But the indirect reference to Massa came when the president highlighted that “while others promised and did not deliver, Our government managed to ensure that only 90,000 workers in the entire country pay Income Tax«. The measure was the driving force behind the relaunch of Massa’s candidacy following the PASO.

Politics, businessmen and murmurs

The President’s visit to IDEA was not without controversy. The president harangued the most important businessmen in the country in relation to the critical moment that the country is going through, and He invited them to leave the rift behind.

«We must end the rift that has been very unhealthy for Argentina. Let’s respect the rule of law. “Democracy is not at risk during its 40th anniversary, but it owes a lot to the citizens,” he said. He reinforced the idea and said “If we don’t respect each other’s differences we are in huge trouble., because we can fall into the crack. The time that is coming is that of national unity,” he indicated.

«If we do not respect each other’s differences we are in a huge problem, because we can end up falling into the crack. “The time that is coming is that of national unity.”

The controversy came when the President summoned the governor of Chaco, Jorge Capitanich. While talking regarding how taxes return citizens to work he stated: «With Coqui Capitanich we are going to inaugurate an aqueduct that is the longest in Latin America». The murmur that rose in the room was deafening.

The room was full of businessmen from the most important corporations in the country, but even several political leaders from Together for Change, such as the former minister of production Dante Sica, the former minister and national deputy of the PRO, Rogelio Frigerio or the deputy of the PRO Silvia Lospenato.

However, the criticism most heard in the hallways at the end of the speech was a thunderous omission by the president: in more than an hour of speech, Alberto Fernández did not mention the word “inflation” even once.
