The last Sunday, River gave the big blow, beating Boca 2 to 0 in La Bombonera for the date of the 2023 League Cup classics.
And one of the most shocking events of the day was a River fan who was discovered in the stands by local supporters.
He was beaten and taken to a hospital, although he is in good condition.
“You have to be with the Boca fans and have a fan say that there is a River fan there so that all the guys will come at you to hit you. And I was alone. What might I do? They might have killed me. A big one grabbed me and threw me down the steps. I wasn’t afraid, but I was already at risk. There was no way to escape,” said José Medina, the attacked fan, in dialogue with Olé.
“I invited a friend (Camila) to come and see the Bombonera. I am a River fan, but she is from Boca and she wanted to get to know Bombonera. My sister told me not to go, but I wanted to go because the girl came from Misiones and she wanted to be on the court… I was afraid that they would discover me. I have River tattoos on my neck, on my arm, on my elbow, on my legs, everywhere. But since she wanted to go, I accompanied her,” she continued.
“I woke up dazed and unable to speak. I was in the hospital and there I made a mistake, because I ran away. I didn’t want to stay hospitalized. So when the caretaker was away, I got up and left. From there I took the bus to my house, in La Paternal. My head was bad, from so many blows I didn’t know what was happening to me,” he said.
“They might have killed me. Because a fan might have kicked me in the chest or head and that kills you. That’s what Boca or River are going to achieve one day: kill a fan. Now I’m beaten all over. I am taking the traditional medications that are sold, but my mistake was running away from the hospital because they were going to do studies on me,” he concluded.
