Almost not a day goes by without one or more smugglers being caught in Upper Austria. According to the Interior Ministry, this is also one of the reasons why there have been increased controls at the Slovakian border since midnight.
A manhunt was underway in the Rohrbach district this morning following four men fled two cars. At the same time, officers in Zwettl an der Rodl (Urfahr-surrounding area) picked up 26 refugees. It is still unclear how the two incidents are related.
At around half past eight the officers raced from Linz towards Rohrbach. The reason: Four men were observed there fleeing two cars. The police are looking for them.
Almost simultaneously, police officers picked up 26 refugees in Zwettl an der Rodl. “They are probably Kurdish Turks,” says Clemens Lehner-Redl from the police press office in Linz. They were probably traveling in a panel van with Hungarian license plates. One of those caught might be a smuggler. The police are investigating.
Apprehended almost every day in Upper Austria
For several weeks now, smugglers have been constantly being caught in Upper Austria, especially in the Mühlviertel. In the Ottensheim area, for example, concerned citizens have already set up their own WhatsApp groups to warn each other regarding smugglers.
