On Saturday October 7, 2023, Chimène Badi will sing Piaf on the stages of the Poissy theater (Yvelines) as part of the Estival festival.

For more than a year, Chimène Badi has been covering the emblematic repertoire of Edith Piaf.

On October 6, a second volume, Chimène sings Piaf: The Complete, with guests like Véronic Dicaire, Vincent Nicolo, Joyce Jonathan will be released.

The singer answered questions from 78actu.

78actu: Why this desire not to “distort” Édith Piaf in your album, and to make few arrangements in these covers?

Chimène Badi: “Do you think I should have covered Édith Piaf in electro? I believe that when we use Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour or Édith Piaf, we must respect them. I certainly mightn’t see myself making an arrangement that was the antithesis of the works of Edith Piaf. I’m not trying to be fashionable, I’ve never sought to be fashionable, and I never will be fashionable. It does not interest me. What interests me is singing Édith Piaf, because I have love for her.

“This tribute is guided by love”

I have a special affection for this artist, she is the one who got me on stage. She was the one who made me fall in love with French song. This tribute is guided by love and when we love someone, we respect them. It was necessary to keep the original arrangements. We just did a facelift, which is normal because these are works that are from a certain period. »

78actu: What inspires you in Édith Piaf? What songs?

Chimène Badi: “It was especially his journey and his story that made me want to do the same thing. I saw a woman who fought her whole life for the love of music who just wanted to sing. As a kid, I wanted to sing and I discovered this artist who moved me vocally, but also through her story and her journey. I will grow up with her and she will become an example, she is someone inspiring. And I find that we have similarities in background and personality.

“I wanted to be like Edith Piaf”

She is a very strong woman, who has a masculine side, which makes her a real woman. That’s like me, I’m someone who has character, who doesn’t give in. I also have this masculine side that I embrace. Afterwards, we have a different journey, his is strewn with drama and pitfalls, not necessarily mine, even if I had my difficulties. I wanted to be like Edith Piaf. »

Opening: Garance

Garance comes from the theater, and tells her story in songs. She takes hold of human relationships, love stories, dissects the male/female relationship and gender codes. We go from tender song to angry song, from eroticism to humor, from taking a position to questions that find no answer. After more than 800 concerts, Garance released his third album BLEU in September 2021, which received a thumbs up from the Académie Charles Cros.

78 news: What will the concert be like?

Chimène Badi: “It’s a show that has been worked on for over a year, in a surgical way. We can’t have fun changing the songs, a whole story is put together with a setting and a staging. We are on stage with a pianist and an accordionist. The entire register of Edith Piaf rests on the 3 of us, with sparing interventions from Edith Piaf via video. It’s a show that was put together and thought through so that the public can find themselves in the register of Edith Piaf but also discover me and my repertoire. »

There are still places left for his concert. Reservation by clicking ici.
