This winter, many French people plan to leave and travel. At the professional tourism fair, tour operators are in full swing.

It’s a surprise that gives morale to tour operators, as the professional tourism fair, TOP Resa, opens on Wednesday October 4 in Paris. Operators are recording a 40% increase in reservations this winter, compared to the same period last year. They did not expect such enthusiasm: according to them, the first figures for the upcoming season are incredible.

Destination soleil

The most popular destinations are those that promise sun reserves. Thailand, Indonesia and Japan are selling very well, but Mauritius is also recording a 25% increase in reservations this winter and Egypt 192%! The United States also continues to attract French customers. All this even though, due to inflation, travel prices, particularly plane ticket prices, have increased significantly.

On the other hand, stays to the Caribbean are down with -6%, this is mainly due to the reduction in services from companies such as Air France or Corsair.

A record summer season

These good prospects come following an already extremely good summer season. Tunisia, which was the star of the summer, but also Italy, Morocco, Greece, the Balearic Islands, whether in July or August, were very popular. And this summer, the United States was already attracting the French.

Ultimately, inflation and climate change have little impact on tourist consumption. Even if it is bad for the planet, and if it is expensive, French people who can afford it continue to treat themselves to vacations far from home, without skimping on the budget.

Indeed, not everyone can afford it. According to the Crédoc inequality observatory, one in two French people was unable to leave this summer, they did not have the means. And the gap tends to widen, with those on the lowest incomes leaving less often than in the early 2000s.
