Former Cal Football Players Shine in NFL Season: Updates on Jake Curhan, Brian Anger, and More

Jake Curhan has played every offensive snap at right tackle during Seattle’s current three-game win streak.

Ten former Cal football players are affiliated with teams off to 3-1 starts during the 2023 NFL season including seven on active rosters in P Brian Anger (Dallas), RB Chris Brooks (Miami), OL Jake Curhan (Seattle), QB Jared Goff (Detroit), LB Cameron Goode (Miami), WR Marvin Jones Jr. (Detroit) and OL Patrick Mekari (Baltimore). The trio of Austin Clark (Miami defensive line coach), RB Patrick Laird (Tampa Bay practice squad) and WR Nikko Remigio (Kansas City injured reserve) rounds out the group.

Curhan and Mekari have been key contributors to their offensive line with Curhan playing in all 202 of the Seahawks’ offensive snaps on their current three-game win streak, while Mekari has played in all but one of the Ravens’ 204 snaps in their last three contests.

Cal has a total of 25 former Cal players currently affiliated with NFL teams including 13 on active rosters, eight on coaching staffs, three on injured reserve lists and one on a practice squad.

Keenan Allen – WR (Los Angeles Chargers, 2-2)

– Followed up a record-breaking Week 3 performance (career highs of 18 receptions and 215 yards receiving) by catching three passes for 32 yards in a 24-17 Week 4 home win over the Las Vegas Raiders
– Second in the NFL with 35 receptions and fourth with 434 yards receiving through Week 4.

Bryan Anger – P (Dallas, 3-1)

– Punted twice for 112 yards (56.0 average, 57.0 net average) to average 51.0 yards per punt or better for the third straight game and twice trapped New England inside its own 20-yard line, while adding a successful throw on a two-point conversion in addition to being holder on four point following attempts and two field goals in a 38-3 Week 4 home win over the Patriots

Chris Brooks – RB (Miami, 3-1)

– Played 10 special teams snaps but did not have any stats other than participation in a 48-20 Week 4 loss at Buffalo

Camryn Bynum – S (Minnesota, 1-3)

– Registered 12 tackles and one forced fumble in the Vikings’ first win of the season in a 21-13 Week 4 road victory at Carolina
– Tied for fifth in the NFL with 43 tackles, while adding two tackles for loss, one pass defense and one forced fumble

Austin Clark – Defensive Line Coach (Miami, 3-1)

– Previously undefeated Miami fell in Week 4 at Buffalo, 48-20

Jake Curhan – OT (Seattle, 3-1)

– Made his eighth career NFL start and third in a row, while he also played every offensive snap at right tackle for the third straight game by taking 55 snaps in a 24-3 Week 4 win at the New York Giants

– Ranks among the NFL’s top-rated quarterbacks in passing yards (7th, 1029), completion percentage (9th, 69.5%), touchdown passes (10th-T, 6) and completions (9th-T, 72)

Cameron Goode – LB (Miami, 3-1)
