Contemporary art gallery ‘Gallery Gujo’ will be holding artist Byung-hun Min’s photography solo exhibition ‘Gye’ until November 19th. Byung-hun Min is an artist who has established an unrivaled style through black-and-white straight photography for over 40 years, and his art is ‘ It is called ‘hand photography’. Layers of time and warmth are engraved in the entire process of pressing the shutter by hand and printing by hand. We completely exclude the intervention of others in all processes, from shooting to printing, and stick to analog gelatin silver printing. No artificial manipulation or correction is performed on the first recorded image. In this way, Min Byung-hun’s aesthetic world has strict order and carefully controlled ‘precepts’. The subtle gray tones and soft textures completed with extreme delicacy awaken a poetic sense in the viewer. In addition, the moments captured with a calm and simple gaze remain as romantic and lyrical traces, reminding us of forgotten emotions. The bleak landscapes and people in the photos feel as if their breath is being conveyed in detail and also tell us a lot. Therefore, the artist describes his work as “resembling the taste of the night before’s dream that remains in your mouth at dawn.” This exhibition is an exhibition that looks at the world of Min Byung-hun’s work over the past 40 years, and the exhibition name is inspired by the artist’s precepts. It was decided as ‘precepts’ (戒).
