A new law has been announced in Dubai that will ensure severe punishment for misuse of the official symbol. The law issued on Monday states that the official symbol reflects the country’s values and principles. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, announced that anyone who misuses the official symbol will face imprisonment of three months to five years or a fine of one lakh to five lakh dirhams. This symbol can be used on government institutions, documents and websites.

Also, this symbol can be used in government program as well. Private entities must obtain permission from the Ruler of Dubai or his representative before using it. Individuals who have not obtained prior permission to use the symbol must cease using it within 30 days. Government organizations and those who have obtained permission to use the symbol are exempted from this. The Act shall come into force from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. Decisions necessary to implement the provisions hereof shall be issued by the Chairman of the Ruler’s Court of Dubai.
