Next November 3 marks the return of the most moody character in the Mario universe: Wario, who will once once more challenge you with completely lunar mini-games. We tested the experience for a few minutes.
After an episode that arrived with a bang on the Switch in 2021 (following an eight-year absence) and called WarioWare: Get It Together!, who would have thought that Nintendo’s brute would return so quickly to our hybrid consoles? On the program for this episode, more than 200 mini-games that are just as crazy. And the title, Move It!, vaguely suggests that our arms will emerge sore from the experience; This is also evidenced by the slogan displayed: “Grab a pair of Joy-Con controllers and wiggle them (not too hard), punch, dance, wave, curtsy, and more in over 200 fast-paced mini-games !”. The part is a sort of successor to WarioWare: Smooth Moves, which took advantage of the Wii’s motion detectors. So, how did we come out of our first attempt?
Wario all spit
In 2023, our beloved antagonist seems to want to take a vacation in the sun. From his hometown of Diamond City, Wario gets the winning ticket to a paradise cruise, where he decides to take on board all his charming employees who you will have the opportunity to play as in turns. Move It! has a Story mode, which can be played alone or in pairs. This scripted piece is peppered with neat little dubbed animated cutscenes that will probably please the family. The mode will take you through a series of levels opening onto the meeting with a new character, the latter asking you to portray the pose assigned to him.
With a Joy-Con in each hand, you will have to pose as a fashionista to capture a chick with a lasso, that of the locomotive to ring bells in rhythm or that of the sumo to catch fish between your legs or draw the right symbol with… your buttocks (so it’s difficult to recommend this mini-game in the presence of your new crush). It was also regarding pecking a worm with our beak, counting the right number of fish in the ocean, stopping a locomotive safely before it crashes, removing dirt from a shell by rubbing our backs or even to zigzag between passages a little Mario from the Super Mario Bros. 3 universe. So many challenges which, like the history of the saga, follow one another at breakneck speed, require your complete concentration and are punctuated by pleasant boss levels. The goal is always the same: to react quickly to understand what to do and to cope with totally stupid situations. Also the title has a museum where you can find all the mini-games unlocked beforehand.
Promising for the family?
Once is not customary, it is clear the crazy creativity of the developers to develop this slew of lunar activities who, we suspect, will bring a few smiles to the group, and more among the youngest. It is therefore above all the party mode of the game which intrigues us, which can be approached by four participants and offers five multiplayer modes. For the moment, we have only had access to one of them: a sort of ultra-simplified game of goose which was completed in just a few minutes, fitting well into the DNA of the series. On the other hand, it is clear that we did not finish the game in a sweat as the title of the game suggested. Ultimately, the cardio was very little used, the exercises required did not require a lot of effort. Also, the movement controller, which requires the greatest precision, will have made us lose a few games, all the same played in a good mood.
Nos impressions
For now, we have only had around thirty minutes of preview of the WarioWare: Move It! experience, so it is difficult to determine its limits or to know if it has sufficient replayability to make us happy for a long time. This new episode nevertheless seems to constitute an interesting party game for the end of the year and promises short sessions of fun with friends, and especially family. Final verdict in November.
