Soyem will not ask for a reduction in working hours in Bariloche

The Soyem municipal union will not request a reduction in the working day of six hours. In this way, Bariloche may not follow in the footsteps of the Neuquén municipality of San Patricio del Chañar, which, through an ordinance, approved a reduction in hours from eight to six hours per day.

Chief of Staff Marcela González Abdala stated that the executive does not evaluate the reduction in working hours as necessary because employees already work seven hours a day.

«The ATE union has a collective agreement that requires workers to work more than 40 hours per week. This is not the case with our statute. “We are in better conditions.”said Fernanda Alonso, deputy secretary of Soyem.

The statute of Bariloche municipal employees establishes that they must work 35 hours a week, although areas considered unhealthy already have a reduction in hours of 6 hours a day. The latter involve cemetery workers, landfill workers, waste collectors and mechanical workshop employees.

Some time ago, Soyem made a presentation to the Río Negro Labor Secretariat to issue a ruling on other possible areas that might be considered unhealthy and that, therefore, would have a different day.

«We are talking regarding some areas that work with biological material, such as the laboratory or the veterinary operating room.. When unhealthiness is declared, it can be permanent or temporary, as in the case of the mechanical workshop. It has to do with the condition of the place where they work,” said Alonso.

He considered that when considering the reduction in hours, the collective bargaining agreement or the governing statute must be evaluated. “In Neuquén, as they are with ATE, the collective agreement stipulates that they must work more than 40 hours a week,” he added.
