For some, modding is a real springboard into the video game industry.

THE Bethesda games are very prone to modding, you know it, and the publisher always has a close eye on successful mods and their creators. A player and modder who helped enrich their games has just announced its involvement in the development of Starfield.

A modder particularly gifted at breathing life into places that seem cold at first glance

Emmi “Elianora” Junkarri is a modder fame which has acquired deserved notoriety in the community of gaming fans of Bethesda games. Its mods have notably marked players on Skyrim and Fallout 4. Notable creations include the mage tower Tel Aschan in Winterhold or even a homemade cheese in Skyrim, a military bunker or a mod that adds around fifty armors and around twenty accessories in Fallout 4 … Above all, his Breezehome mod (for Skyrim) has been downloaded over 1.5 million times on Nexus. It replaces the player house in Whiterun by a house more worthy of your rank and more tidy. Generally speaking, Elianora mods are often dedicated to housing, with a particularity: disorder. The modder is very good at breathe life into these placesby creating an “orderly disorder”, by placing what sometimes seems like trash everywhere, so that we have the impression that these places are very real.

Hired thanks to the Creation Club, she becomes an artist on Starfield

The peak of Elianora’s career as a modder was probably his entry into the Creation Club program of Bethesda. In this program, the most noted modders can create content additional for Skyrim and Fallout 4. They are funded by Bethesda to create this additional content, which is then disponibles via micro-transactions for the players. It is thanks to this platform that she was able to approach the Bethesda development teams for the first time, which led to his hiring. Her role in Starfield’s development was to design well-lit environments and to strategically place all the objects and details that bring the game to life. She was called a “lighting and clutter artist”. Among his achievements are the lighting design of certain places according to Bethesda guidelines, as well as the creation of interiors and the careful arrangement of objects and decorative elements everywhere (a pile of coffee cups for example). Immersion in Starfield is therefore in part the result of Elianora’s expertise in creating environments rich in detail.

Thanks to this experience, Elianora’s mods become more ambitious

This role not only enriched the game, but it also allowed Elianora to develop new skills. Passing from indie modding to creating content for a major gameshe had to adapt to a more structured, directed approach, and specific design requirements. While this imposed some limitations, such as making sure the mess she created fit Starfield’s style, this experience really made him progress. She explains :

I’m so much better at lighting now. If you look at my mods for Fallout 4 before and following my time as a lighting artist for Starfield, they are much more ambitious following spending time on Starfleet lighting. So you can definitely see an improvement in the way I perceive everything.

The Elianora’s contract is now over, and she currently has a more “ordinary” job. However, she insists that modding is a completely valid route to gaining experience in the industry video game. His message is clear: use the tools, complete your projects and contribute to the community.

Starfield is available on PC and Xbox Series now.
