Hangzhou: Vidya Ramraj became a proud star along with PT Usha, the best runner India has ever seen. Vidya Ramraj came with the record set by PT Usha 39 years ago in women’s 400m hurdles.
PT Usha’s record came when Vidya Ramraj finished in 55.42 seconds in the Asian Games hurdles. Vidya Ramraj came with the record set by PT Usha in Los Angeles in 1984.
After topping the heats, Vidya Ramraj entered the final of the 400m hurdles and gave India a medal hope.
Vidya Ramraj missed the national record by one second in the fifth leg of the Indian Grand Prix Athletics in Chandigarh last month. He won gold that day but finished in 55.43 seconds.
The national record time in the women’s 400m hurdles was 55.42 seconds set by PT Usha at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. In the same competition, Usha lost the medal by a few seconds.
