The first presidential debate in Argentina ended and the different candidates have made clear their proposals for the future of the country. However, there were some rough moments during the night and Javier Miley starred in one of them. The La Libertad Avanza candidate had to respond regarding Human Rights and denied that there were 30,000 missing in the last military dictatorshipwhich generated the rejection of the president Alberto Fernandez.

The head of state expressed himself through his X account, where he criticized the economist: «It is unsustainable for someone to continue denying and justifying the genocidal dictatorship that tortured, murdered, stole babies whose identity was changed, caused disappearances and condemned tens of thousands of Argentinian men and women to exile,” he stated.

«The presidential debate is an ideal mechanism to know the thoughts of each of the candidates. After 40 years of democracy, which has cost us so much struggle, I regret that we continue to hear denialist voices«added Alberto Fernández once the debate ended. The presidential spokesperson, Gabriela Cerutti, and other officials close to him did the same.

What did Javier Milei say?

During his presentation, the national deputy questioned that “liberals have been accused of aberrant things such as fascist and Nazi fascists” and that is why he differentiated himself from other political spaces: “We value the vision of memory, truth and justice. Let’s start with the truth, there were not 30,000, there were 8,753, we are once morest a one-eyed vision of history“, he claimed.

«In the 70’s there was a war and in that war the state forces committed excesses. The ERP terrorists murdered people, tortured people, planted bombs and committed crimes once morest humanity. “We do not agree with the human rights work, those who used ideology to make money, do shady businesses such as shared dreams or the Madres de Plaza de Mayo university,” Milei added.
