The Kosovo government in Pristina accuses Belgrade of using its military force to advance towards Kosovo – “from three different directions”. Units of the Second Brigade of the Serbian Army moved from Raska towards the northern border of Kosovo, units of the Third Brigade from the Nis region towards the northeastern border and units of the Fourth Brigade from the Vranje region towards the eastern border, the government in Pristina reported. Serbia had deployed anti-aircraft systems and heavy artillery to “start a possible military aggression” once morest the Republic of Kosovo.
However, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic denied any intention to launch a military strike once morest Kosovo. Rather, he would give the order to withdraw Serbian troops, he said in an interview with the Financial Times. An escalation would be “counterproductive” for Belgrade’s EU accession plans. Serbia will not destroy its own years of efforts. “Serbia doesn’t want war,” Vucic told the paper. However, he did not say why he had sent the army to the border with tanks and artillery in the first place. In any case, the US government, the EU and Germany had previously called for a withdrawal in sharp words.

Experienced observers of the Serbian leader’s policies said it was one of his usual maneuvers. One thing is certain: He has received regular praise for this.
