Coach Emin Sulimani played a large part in the sporting success. In the interview, the 37-year-old talks regarding his career as a player, his biggest sporting mistake and his goals as a coach.
Mr. Sulimani, you were considered a professional who was never able to fully realize his potential. Would you agree with that?
Amin Sulimani: Yes and no. I would particularly highlight the three years at Austria Vienna. We won the cup and played constantly in Europe. That was definitely my best and most successful time.
At that time you rejected an offer to extend your contract in Vienna. At the end of the transfer period he moved to LASK. Did you make a mistake there?
That was definitely the biggest mistake of my career. When I rejected Austria’s offer, my personal downward spiral began. I also listened to the wrong whisperers back then and wasn’t given the advice that was right. Looking back, I feel really sorry. Who knows what my career would have been like if I had chosen Austria. Unfortunately, I was often injured at LASK. Looking back, I should have gotten a lot more out of my playing career. To be honest, it hurts a bit to think back.
You are currently a coach at an ambitious club in your hometown. The clear goal is to quickly jump into the professional business. Exactly according to your taste, or?
In any case. With the merger and pooling of forces, we have a great opportunity here in Wels. The potential is huge. I like it when you strive for the highest possible. I feel good, the people involved in the club are great and overall we are on the right track.
In the summer it was anything but certain that you would stay in Wels. There was always speculation regarding offers from higher leagues and abroad. Why didn’t you seize the opportunity?
There were two concrete offers from the second division and one from the second division in Belgium. I became a father last November, settled in Hohenzell and didn’t want to rush anything. As a player, I would have accepted the better offer straight away. But now, with more life experience, other things also come into play. This is certainly also a learning effect from the wrong decisions I made as a player.
