Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to meet with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the forum in China on the “new Silk Roads” project, according to a message sent by the Russian leader on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, cited by the Russian state news agency, Tass.
“I am confident that our upcoming discussions at the international forum on the new Silk Roads will facilitate the expansion of a series of Russian-Chinese ties that benefit our peoples and ensure security and stability on the Eurasian continent and all over the world,” said Vladimir Putin.
In September, Moscow announced that the Russian president had accepted an invitation from the Chinese president to visit the neighboring republic in October for this forum. On September 26, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the dates for this visit had been decided, but not yet announced.
With its Belt and Road initiative, Beijing supports infrastructure projects around the world and has reached numerous agreements with almost all Arab states. Dozens of international leaders will attend the forum in October in Beijing.
