“We of course tried to understand why Lucas had this particular evolution”, his doctor told LCI. Oncologist Jacques Gril explains, however, that with his colleagues, he “found small abnormalities in his tumor which are rare in this disease and which can explain the more favorable evolution, the better response to treatment”.
Inoperable, such an illness does not usually provide a life expectancy of more than two years following a diagnosis. If Lucas seems out of the woods today, thanks to a form of long remission, the specialists at the Gustave-Roussy institute in Villejuif, in Val-de-Marne, where he was treated for experimental treatment, are full of hope. Understanding the improvement in one’s health, even though treatment does not appear to be involved in this process, might help to better understand this condition and find ways to help other patients in the future.
