Upper Valais magician Lionel Dellberg is currently performing in French-speaking theaters. Alex Reed on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., he recalls his links with the French-speaking part of the country, where his grandmother comes from who taught him French, and takes the opportunity to present a sleight of hand that leaves one speechless.

Where is the reality? Where is the illusion? It’s not easy to navigate Lionel Dellberg. In 2021, Haut-Valaisan won the trophy for the American show “Fool Us”, a must-see in the world of magicians.

The principle of the trick that the magician presented is simple: a carton of milk, from which several drinks come out. His victory led him to other television sets, for example on that of “France has incredible talent” in 2022.

Lionel Dellberg was eight years old when he started magic, which he then practiced with frenzy, between theater classes and his studies in business management. But he had never planned a professional career, he confided on Saturday in the 7:30 p.m.

“You have to have interest, invest a lot of time and practice. If you’re lucky, maybe one day you’ll be able to make a living from it. It wasn’t really planned. I’ve always done lots of things in life. But I always did shows to, among other things, earn a little money to be able to study. Finally, I got to where I am now,” he says.

Conquering French-speaking Switzerland

The forty-year-old is currently on tour in French-speaking Switzerland, the region of his grandmother, who taught him French.

At the microphone of RTS, he affirms that it is “even more important” to play on French-speaking stages than those in Las Vegas. “I have a link with French-speaking Switzerland, while with Las Vegas, not so much,” declares the magician.

The one who describes himself with a smile as a “Swiss-toto” has adapted his German-speaking show to French-speaking Switzerland. He says he plays on clichés and assures that the audience will find in the end “nothing but the truth” (that’s the name of the show). This is all that Lionel Dellberg wishes to reveal regarding the program, since a magician never reveals everything.

The conjurer leaves the 7:30 p.m. stage without disappearing in a cloud of smoke, but still performing a little magic trick. Fake banknotes, followed by a trick that would make counterfeiters green with envy…
