Costco Subscription Woes: The Hidden Expenses and Impulsive Shopping Experiences

Costco may be one of the most popular brands in North America for the deep discounts it offers its customers, but one woman had quite the opposite experience, as her subscription led to new expenses as unforeseen as they are uncontrollable.

In an article written for Insider, Sarra Sedghi recounted her experience at Costco, complaining that her attempts to save money instead led to her wasting her hard-earned money and turned her into a “shopper impulsive” and a big “snack consumer”.

“At first, being able to buy in bulk helped me plan and stock up on supplies and personal hygiene items, like toilet paper,” she writes.

However, she quickly found herself overwhelmed by items purchased in bulk, not even knowing where to put them.

“I would often grab something because I thought it was good to have on hand, but I never used it,” she admits.

“I still haven’t used the big pack of canned tomatoes that I bought in 2022, and a jar of capers from the warehouse is still three-quarters full,” she explains once more.

She laments that her household of two might not consume the food supplies purchased quickly enough, which ultimately led to losses and waste since she had to get rid of them.

Ms Sedghi, who works from home, has also struggled to manage her new access to a plethora of snacks.

“Large portions and boredom were often a perfect combination for mindless snacking,” she says.

“My worst crime was having to repurchase a huge bag of Halloween candy that I bought in September because we ate it all before October 31,” she said.
