One year and five months into his inauguration, President Yoon Seok-yeol has put as much effort into diplomacy as any other president in history.
Under the banner of freedom and solidarity, we met with leaders of over 100 countries and held talks centered on the ROK-US alliance and Korea-US-Japan cooperation.

President Yoon Seok-yeol, who began ‘ROK-US alliance’ diplomacy with a summit concluded with US President Biden’s visit to Korea just one day following his inauguration,
At the NATO Summit in June of last year, he met with the leaders of the United States and Japan, and three months later, he emphasized the values of freedom and solidarity on his debut stage at the United Nations General Assembly.

However, the government showed impatience in the talks with the United States and Japan, and controversy arose over President Yoon’s profanity, causing a stir.
Unity between Korea, the United States, and Japan began in earnest in November last year when they adopted a joint statement, including an agreement to share North Korean missile warning information.
After President Yoon’s March 1st commemoration speech omitted any mention of past history such as comfort women and forced conscription issues, the government announced a third-party payment method as a solution to the issue of compensation for victims of forced conscription, and Korea-Japan ‘shuttle diplomacy’ gained momentum.

As if waiting, the state visit to the US and the ROK-US summit in April followed.
In May, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida paid a return visit.
And the Korea-U.S.-Japan summit held in August at Camp David, the U.S. presidential villa, was the highlight of the three countries’ “close diplomacy.”
With the clear diplomatic stance of the Yoon Seok-yeol government, which centered on the ROK-US alliance and put cooperation between Korea, the US and Japan at the forefront, the ‘new Cold War structure’ between Korea, the US and Japan versus North Korea, China and Russia has become more evident.

Meanwhile, President Yoon continued his push for talks on the stages of multilateral conferences such as NATO, G20, ASEAN summit, and UN General Assembly to attract the 2030 Busan Expo.
In the 1 year and 5 months since taking office, the number of meetings has been over 140, and the number of countries that have met has reached over 100, making it truly the ‘highest level of summit diplomacy’ in history.

The ‘Yoon Seok-yeol’s foreign policy’ has reached a turning point, including the ROK-US alliance, Korea-Japan shuttle, Korea-US-Japan cooperation, and all-out effort at the Expo.
Since it is a route dependent on the Biden system, it may fluctuate greatly depending on the situation following the US presidential election, and the fact that cooperation with China and Russia has declined is still pointed out as a limitation.
The past history with Japan and the lack of public persuasion on the contaminated water issue are also problems, and it remains to be seen what kind of evaluation it will receive when it reaches the finish line.
