(rfi.fr) – On social networks, a call for the departure of French troops from Chadian soil has been circulating since Thursday September 28. Among the 21 signatories, members of civil society and political parties, from the diaspora and from within the country, are cited.
The author of the press release is the president of the Rally for Justice and Equality in Chad (Rajet) party, Ordjei Abderahim Chaha. He presents himself as a member of “Wakit Tama political section” and affirms that his call echoes the concerns of many Chadians, who, according to him, no longer want the presence of French troops.
This presence is perceived, according to him, as support for the regime in place of Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, son of the late president Idriss Deby Itno. “ It is a negative presence. We say no. And me too, as a political actor. I have warned the French leaders several times in writing, saying : “Be careful of the politics you make. This is a very bad policy. Do not interfere and do not support a system that the Chadian people do not want” », Explains Ordjei Abderahim Chaha by telephone.
Signatories divided
« You see now, the Chadian people are more aware and have understood that France brings nothing. French policy brings nothing to Chad. The Chadian people are not once morest France, but we are once morest French policy in Chad. I hesitated several times. But you have to change because you took the wrong side : you have put in place a system which confronts the Chadian people and which kills the Chadian people. These are people who embezzle money and who don’t care regarding the fate of the Chadian people. And often, they clearly say that they are supported by France “, he finished.
The text therefore calls for the departure of French troops within three months, as well as the cancellation of the agreements between Paris and Ndjamena. Joined on Friday September 29, 2023 by RFI, leaders of Chadian civil society cited as signatories say they do not recognize themselves in this press release. This is for example the case of Jacques Ngarassal, of the Chadian Anti-Corruption Organization (OTAC).
