Bad surprise in store for tourists who have already booked a room in Île-de-France next year. As part of a memorandum of understanding on public transport, signed Tuesday between the State and Île-de-France Mobilités, a tripling of the tourist tax in Ile-de-France hotels is in fact planned. With the idea of passing part of their cost on to visitors, who “use a public policy to which it seems necessary that they contribute”, according to the Minister of Transport Clément Beaune.
The tourist tax, paid by hotels, tourist residences and furnished tourist accommodation, varies depending on the city and the number of stars of the establishments. And the tripling of its ceiling might have concrete consequences on their activity, professionals are already warning. “A family with two children staying in a three-star hotel will have to pay 25.88 euros per day in 2024, compared to 8.63 euros currently. And a company that organizes a seminar for around ten executives in a 4-star hotel will suffer an increase in its bill of 75 euros per day,” argues Jean-Virgile Crance, president of the Confederation of Tourist Stakeholders (CAT) and the Grouping. National Hotel Chains (GNC).
