The heat is produced by an individual boiler or a water/water, air/water heat pump (apartment or individual house) or a collective boiler room for buildings, ERP or industrial buildings.
When the boiler room is collective, it can supply hot water to one or more buildings or steam to an industrial building or a network which supplies the buildings via substations. Direct steam is no longer used for homes or public buildings, among other things, because of the risk of burns and the complexity of passing the pipes.
The heat is transmitted to the various rooms of the apartment, the building, the ERP or the industrial building by circulating fluids which supply heating bodies (radiators, convectors, air heaters, etc.).
The hot air produced by a generator is conveyed by ducts and supply and return vents. The hot air is mixed with the surrounding air and heats it.
With hot water inside buildings, circulation can be ensured by thermosiphon for old installations or using a pump, which allows more flexibility for the passage of pipes of a smaller diameter .
When the fluid is vaporized water vapor, it condenses and thus releases its heat, and the water returns to the generator.
Pending the generalization of eco-friendly gestures in housing as well as in professional premises, Decree No. 2023-444 of June 7, 2023 relating to temperature regulation systems for heating and cooling systems and the insulation of heat distribution networks and cold was published in the Official Journal of June 8, 2023. It concretely requires all homes to equip their radiators with a thermostat from January 1, 2027.
