A first semi-trailer was parked on the emergency lane following a tire burst. A few dozen meters behind him, another truck, loaded with two trailers, was passing alongside him when the second trailer hit the parked truck.

Following the impact, the trailer became detached from the truck, only to overturn and release its cargo of thousands of packages onto the road.

The accident blocked the three lanes of traffic, which forced the authorities to close the highway at Courcelles, causing major traffic jams of several kilometers. The Marcinelle firefighters were called upon, under the orders of Lieutenant Vannieuwhenoven and Warrant Officer Delvigne, to clear the roadway as well as marking. An ambulance and a SMUR were dispatched to the scene, but no injuries were reported.

The Senzée convenience store, as well as several WPR teams from Mons and Marcinelle, were also on site.
