ENARM 2023: National Medical Residency Exam – Dates, Locations, and Specialty Requirements

The presentation period of the National Examination of Aspirants to Medical Residencies, that is, the ENARM 2023 would take place from September 26 to 28 in five different locations in the Mexican Republic: 2 in León, Guanajuato, 2 in Puebla, Puebla and 1 Hermosillo , Sonora.

The ENARM is a 450-item test that addresses realistic medical problems that medical graduates will have to answer correctly. It is nothing more than the first step for those who wish to study their residency in one of the 27 specialties available among the 5 thousand places offered by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

Something else to highlight regarding the ENARM 2023 is that the minimum score required by medical interns to pass the exam depends on the specialty of their interest. For example:

If they want Family Medicine they need a minimum of 56 points. If they want Emergency Medicine they need a minimum of 57 points. If they want Occupational and Environmental Medicine they need a minimum of 58 points. If they want Pathological Anatomy they need a minimum of 58 points. If they want Anesthesiology requires a minimum of 60 points.

You can try once more if you don’t pass ENARM 2023

The ENARM 2023 is a test with multiple choice answers and only one is correct. But if they do not pass the exam and do not have access to a medical residency at the IMSS, the applicant can try once more because there is no limit to the number to present it.

In this sense, the next edition of the ENARM would begin in February or March of next 2024. Meanwhile, the interns selected to do their residency at the IMSS will be able to obtain their certificate until February 28, 2024 in view of the fact that the start of classes It is March 1, 2024.

Now, the criteria to qualify the ENARM 2023 are descending according to the total score. But in the event of a tie between the results of two or more candidates for residency at the IMSS, the tie-breaking criteria described in the “Guidelines for specialty selection of the XLVII ENARM 2023” would be applied, which will be published on October 2, 2023 following 6:00 p.m.

The applicant can choose between any of these specialties to complete their residency at the IMSS: Pathological Anatomy, Anesthesiology, Audiology, Otoneurology and Phoniatrics, Quality of Clinical Care, General Surgery, Epidemiology, Medical Genetics, Geriatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Imaging, Diagnostic and Therapeutic, Physical Activity and Sports Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Preventive Medicine, Pulmonology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology and Head Surgery and Neck, Clinical Pathology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Radiation Oncology and Traumatology and Orthopedics.
