Gilles Dufour, a loyal customer of the Laurentian Bank, has been unable to access his account since last Friday.
The problem is that he has Parkinson’s disease and “can no longer pay for [ses] drugs”.
Listen to the Everything you need to know segment in 24 minutes with Alexandre Moranville-Ouellet on QUB radio:
Mr. Dufour explains that he lost his wallet more than a week ago. He therefore took steps to obtain a new driving license, a new health insurance card and a new debit card.
“I’ve been trying to activate and use my ATM card for over a week, but it’s not working,” he says. “I’ve been calling every day since Friday, but I’m being fooled. I was transferred several times and finally hung up on me.”
The man from Sainte-Agathe even went to a Montreal branch to try to resolve the problem, in vain.
Caroline Bruens, Mr. Dufour’s wife, is now worried regarding his state of health. She believes that the delays at the Laurentian Bank have a negative impact on the latter.
“When you suffer from Parkinson’s, it makes the situation very difficult,” she explains. “It causes him a lot of stress and increases his tremors.”
At the end of his resources, Mr. Dufour assures that he will continue to call the Laurentian Bank until the problem is resolved.
Unlike several other Laurentian clients, Mr. Dufour affirms that he will not change institutions when the situation is completely resolved, because all of his assets have been there for several years.

Remember that the problem comes from an update of the central system which went wrong on Sunday. Laurentian will take the time to analyze everything once the storm has passed.
This five-day outage is a new blow for the smallest of the eight Canadian banks, already in difficulty.
