At first glance, nothing has changed, or let’s say, not much, like every year: just enough to fuel the debate, between players, on the evolution of graphics and gameplay. This time, it seems that the game is designed to appeal to good level players, comfortable with the subtleties of the immense configuration possibilities contained in the drop-down menus, much less amateurs who just play a little match to decompress following a day of work. Well, we’ll see in use. But there is already a habit that needs to be lost: saying that we “play FIFA”. The most famous football simulation in the world, the annual version of which was released on Friday, is now called EA Sports FC 24.
The name of the game’s historic publisher replaces that of the International Football Federation because the two parted ways following three decades of collaboration. In the wake of FIFA International Soccerreleased in September 1993 on a whole series of consoles including the Super Nintendo and the Mega Drive, 29 versions of FIFA emerged, following the evolution of machines, technology and practices, moving from “solo” to multi-player then to online games, embracing in the process the development of e-sport competitions. It is an understatement to say that success has been achieved for the franchise which concerns more than 100 million players worldwide (150 million in 2022) and would have achieved a total turnover of 20 billion dollars, according to THE New York Times.
