His 15 hectares of green beans cannot be sold to the industrialist D’Aucy, with whom he is used to working. A farmer from Rieux (Morbihan) has decided to share it with anyone who wants it for free. Picking from your field is authorized until Saturday, September 30. Sunday will be too late, the residue will be crushed.

These beans have no defects. They just reached maturity too early because of the particularly mild weather in September. Result: things are jammed at the can factory which cannot absorb this overproduction. “There are around ten of us affected at the scale of the Eureden cooperative, but we will be compensated,” explains Bruno Calle, another farmer who also organized a free-picking operation in mid-September on his farm. , the SCEA of Moulins-de-Kerollet in Arzal (Morbihan).

A first visit to Restos du coeur

“We sowed beans twice, twelve days apart, over 20 ha. However, the second series grew as quickly as the first,” he explains. In order not to make a mess, he first contacted the Restos du coeur who sent around fifty volunteers to the site and collected 500 kg. Secondly, he opened his field to the neighbors, then the magic of social networks did the rest.

“Three hundred to four hundred people came. It was stunning. Some have traveled 50 km. Among the lot, there were a few profiteers but also many people in need. A mother fell into my arms in tears,” says Bruno. Four hectares out of 10 were finally picked, the equivalent of 60 tonnes! As for the remaining 6 ha, they were collected by farmers and will be used to feed the animals during the winter.
