The Spanish National Police arrested a minor this Thursday at a secondary school in Jerez de la Frontera, in the southern province of Cádiz, following the attack on three teachers and two students with a knife, as reported to CNN. a spokesperson for that security body.
The young man, who according to the police was carrying two knives, was subdued by citizen security agents inside the school following receiving a warning call at 8:25 am, local time.
Subsequently, he was transferred to the local police station and from there he would be taken “in a few hours” to the minor’s prosecutor to have his statement taken, said Adrián Domínguez, spokesperson for the National Police.
Despite being 14 years old, the detainee “is liable under the Law of Criminal Responsibility of Minors” although “we will have to see the responsibilities settled by the law.” […] and what the judiciary and the Prosecutor’s Office deem,” Domínguez said.
The three teachers and one of the injured students were taken to the Jerez Hospital for treatment, the Andalusian Health Ministry informed CNN.
Two of the teachers and the student have superficial wounds that are not serious, while the third teacher will have to undergo surgery due to more complex wounds, the organization said.
In addition, the health authorities have provided psychological care for those teachers or students of the institute who require it.
The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Manuel Moreno, expressed through his official “I love the teachers of the center and the families of the students, and my wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured.”
