The Luis Carlos Sarmiento Angulo Cancer Treatment and Research Center (CTIC) will hold the Critical Oncology Medicine Symposium ‘Improving the outcomes of cancer patients in the ICU’, which will take place on October 5 and 6.
This event will be a pioneer in the country and will feature the participation of international and national speakers, with extensive experience in caring for critical oncology patients.

This meeting is the perfect scientific setting for the development of activities that can improve the outcomes of cancer patients in Intensive Care Units (ICU).
Its importance lies in the extension of knowledge regarding this condition with a greater incidence among the world population. Within the framework of insurance in Colombia, through Resolution 0247 of 2014, the registration of information on people with cancer began. In the first measurement, 139,789 people with the disease were reported, a figure that has risen to 416,289 prevalent cases in 2021.
The quota of Colombian specialists in critical medicine and intensive care will be headed by at least 7 of the best doctors in the country in this field.
Consequently, international critical care medicine experts will be present during the symposium: Dr. Joseph Nates, professor of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Texas; Javier Pérez Fernández, medical director of critical care services at the Baptist Hospital of Miami and also an Argentine doctor, Néstor Omar Raimondi, head of intensive care at the Hospital
Juan A. Fernández, past president of the Pan and Iberian Federation of Intensive Care.
Likewise, there will be the presence of the doctor, Carola Giménez-Esparza, president of the Spanish Society of Critical Intensive Medicine (Semicyuc).
Dr. Joan Ramon Masclans, head of the Intensive Medicine Service at the Hospital del Mar, and Dr. Xavi Nuvials from the Vall debron Hospital will come from Spain. And from Ecuador, Dr. Freddy Morales, specialist in the Management and Treatment of critically ill patients in the ICU.

The quota of Colombian specialists in critical medicine and intensive care will be headed by doctors: Agamenón Quintero from Montería, Camilo Pizarro from Bucaramanga, Hans García, Albert Valencia and Yenny Cárdenas from Bogotá, also from
medical head of the Intensive Care Unit, Dr. Víctor Hugo Nieto Estrada.

The symposium agenda will be framed over two days and will include conferences, workshops and discussion of clinical cases that seek to promote the development of national and international research networks around critically ill cancer patients.
The interdisciplinary event that CTIC will carry out will take into account the vision of intensivists, oncologists, nursing professionals, respiratory therapy, physiotherapy, nutrition, occupational therapy and speech therapy, among others.
