Riyadh: The International Book Fair has started in the Saudi capital city. Organized by the Saudi Ministry of Culture and Communications under the theme ‘Destination of Inspiration’, the book festival is being held at the King Saud University campus in Riyadh. On the first day itself, Thursday, Melanagari and its surroundings were crowded with people. Oman is the guest country this year.
The 10-day fair started in the presence of literary and cultural leaders of the Arab world and publishers from all over the world. The fair is progressing in a specially prepared town inside the King Saud University campus. Spread over an area of over 55,000 square meters, the sprawling city has 800 pavilions open to the lovers of literature.
Visiting time in Melanagari is from 10 am to 11 pm every day. Free transport facility is provided to the hall from the parking center which is regarding one kilometer away from the city. Every day different cultural programs will be held as part of the fair. The fair has rare collections of some of the latest publications and pictures on literature and art.

This year there are 1800 publishers in the fair which is expecting more than 10 lakh visitors. But this time there is no Malayalam publisher. Separate reading rooms have been set up in the hall for the readers. Visitors have the opportunity to view and purchase rare manuscripts and paintings. In conjunction with the fair, an international publishers’ conference seeking solutions to various challenges faced by the book industry will be held at the same venue on October 4.
