In an event organized by the Ministry of Justice, under the command of Flávio Dino, the messaging platform Discord carried out training for almost a thousand national public security professionals from the five regions of the country. The workshop featured presentations explaining how the application works and cybersecurity measures.

Among the professionals who participated in the lectures are agents from the Brazilian police force and prosecutors who deal with cybercrimes in at least 16 states in the country. The event showed how the company can collaborate with Brazilian police authorities to provide clearer guidance on processes and investigations.

The company took the opportunity to highlight that the majority of messenger users and communities created on the platform are healthy and strictly follow the terms of use and Brazilian laws.

“Discord is overwhelmingly used by people to have positive interactions, so 99.9% of our Brazilian communities have had no policy violations in the last 6 months,” said Ross LaJeunesse, Vice President and Global Head of Public Policy.

It also reinforces the application’s collaboration with Brazilian investigations that resulted in the identification and arrest of people related to crimes of virtual rape, cyberbullying, coercion, etc. In one of the cases, Discord’s collaboration with the Civil Police resulted in the arrest of at least 8 individuals between July and August this year as part of “Operation Pessinus”.

One of the most notorious cases was the arrest of Pedro Ricardo Conceição da Rocha, known as “King”, who was indicted for the crimes of rape of a vulnerable person, criminal association, disseminating and storing, files containing scenes of child sexual abuse, production of files containing scenes of child sexual abuse and induction, instigation or assistance in suicide, or self-mutilation; the crimes were being committed in a community through Discord.

As part of its commitment to improving security in Brazilian society, Discord has conducted more than ten other workshops for law enforcement authorities and the Public Ministry in recent months.
