The team figure skating event at the Beijing Olympic Games will have to wait a few more days to know its result. Winners of the event, the Russians included in their ranks a skater who tested positive for a doping product, two months before the Games, Kamila Valieva.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport was due to consider the case this week, between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the International Federation (ISU) and the Russian anti-doping agency. But a panel of judges requested the production of new documents and pushed the hearing back to early November. “The hearing will resume on November 9 or 10,” announced the Lausanne court.

WADA says she should be suspended for four years

Testing positive for trimetazidine during the Russian Championships, Valieva was authorized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to compete at the Olympics. Since then, the Russian anti-doping agency has cleared the skater, who assures that her test is explained by the mistaken taking of heart medication intended for her grandfather.

But WADA believes that the athlete should be suspended for four years, which would nullify her results and deprive Russia of the team title, won ahead of the United States, Japan and Canada. The ISU also hopes that the CAS will invalidate the decision of the Russian anti-doping committee and finally determine the final result of the Olympic event.
