The fight once morest malnutrition and hunger at the national and global level is a cause of utmost importance. According to the United Nations Children’s Fund, in Mexico one in every eight girls and boys under five years of age is short for their age, due to the lack of a sufficient, varied and nutritious diet; which is also associated with more than half of the deaths of girls and boys around the world, For this reason, the World Health Organization has established the goal of “Zero Hunger” as one of the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030..

In this context, the University Sustainable Food Program (PUAS) invited the university community to participate in its Sustainable Food Day, under the slogan “UNAMons for Zero Hunger 2023”, which took place on September 22 in Las Islas, and its main objective was to provide support to those who suffer from hunger in our society.

The Faculty of Medicine actively joined this noble initiative by organizing, through the Coordination of Community Services, a food collection on September 20 and 21 on the red esplanade of the little shops.

Community members responded by contributing significantly to this humanitarian cause with the donation of 16 kilos of rice, 16 kilos of beans, one kilo of lentils, 10 cans of vegetables, four cans of tuna, three bags of instant soup, a bag of pasta and a liter of oil, which were delivered to the PUAS .

This gesture of solidarity on the part of the Faculty of Medicine reflects the commitment of the university community to the fight once morest hunger and the promotion of sustainable nutrition.

Furthermore, it demonstrates the importance of combining academic training with a deep commitment to the well-being of the community to train conscious and supportive professionals. Likewise, it strengthens empathy and understanding of the inequalities faced by patients in vulnerable situations.
