In France, thermal strainers are now causing lively debate. The government recently implemented a law banning the rental of these homes. However, the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, is in the perspective of establishing a revision concerning the deadlines of this ban.

Shift of timetables from ban to rental of thermal strainers

Bruno Le Maire recently made a statement during an interview with the newspaper The Parisian, where he pleads for a review of the timetables for the ban on the rental of thermal strainers. He is very supportive of “ shift calendars » to best respond to the concerns of households overwhelmed by inflation. Indeed, he mentioned the effect of the latter on the ability of these owners to begin renovation projects in this direction: “ I consider that everything that was decided before the rate hike deserves to be looked at once more in the light of this crisis ». « What was possible when money was available, becomes impossible with rates this high “, he added.

As a reminder, housing classified G and F, according to the new energy performance diagnosis (DPE), are considered thermal sieves due to their energy inefficiency. They are mainly responsible for greenhouse gas emissions in France.

The Resilience and Climate law, passed in 2021, provides for a ban on the rental of housing classified G from January 1, 2025. In 2028, it will also be applied to housing classified F. That said, Bruno Le Maire declared that he was going to see if it was possible to shift the calendars. He even questioned the DPE and affirmed that he was rather in favor of taking into consideration certain improvements in the latter: “ Can’t this so-called DPE classification be improved? With my colleague from the Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu, we are ready to open this debate “, he added.

A statement that sparked mixed reactions within the government!

The day following Bruno Le Maire’s declaration concerning the revision of the timetables for the ban on the rental of thermal strainers, the presidential majority pointed to this declaration, pushing Bruno Le Maire to provide more clarity to these remarks. He, in fact, declared to AFP on Wednesday that he was “not no question of changing the schedule as it was determined “, more of ” think regarding how we can be more flexible and clearer for our compatriots ».

Despite his declarations, Bruno Le Maire reaffirms his desire to achieve ambitious objectives, aiming to become the “ first decarbonized European economy by 2040 “, by avoiding ” any punitive ecology » and by promoting a “ pragmatic and incentive ecology ».
