It’s a fact, gravels and electric gravels are on the rise. These adventure electric bikes enjoy very interesting versatility, since their road bike geometry and their mountain bike tires allow them to venture on smooth asphalt as well as forest trails or other stony roads.

The American brand Specialized clearly wants to strengthen its position in this specific niche. This is why the second generation of its Creo range fully embraces the technical codes of this category. Here are the Creo 2 Comp, Expert and S-Works – via Instagram and the official site -, which are distinguished in particular by their wheels, their transmission and their weight.

Lightweight

The first indeed opts for DT Swiss G540 wheels, a SRAM X1 Eagle AXS 12-speed transmission and a weight of 14.47 kg. The second relies on Roval Terra C wheels, a SRAM GX Eagle AXS 12-speed drivetrain and a weight of 13.96 kg. Finally, the third incorporates Roval Terra CLX II wheels, a SRAM XX1 Eagle AXS 12-speed transmission for a weight of 12.96 kg.

Each model, however, shares the same in-house designed tires, 28-inch Tracer Pro combined with a FACT 11r carbon frame. Carbon is a material particularly renowned for its lightness and strength, but also its expensive costs. It is partly thanks to him that the weight of the trio manages to be so low.

On its official website, Specialized indicated that it had added a fork “Future Shock 3.0 with smooth 20mm of handlebar travel that reduces impacts by 53%“. Let’s see what this can do in practice. There is also a telescopic rod, very useful for adapting your driving position according to the type of terrain.

On the engine side, you have to count on an in-house central motor, the SL1.2, designed to maximize power in a box that is intended to be as small as possible. The torque of 50 Nm that it delivers seems to us to be more than sufficient for gravel riding.

A complete application

Next to it sits a 320 Wh battery, which would provide 130 km. Obviously, this data corresponds to the weakest assistance mode. A 160 Wh range extender also allows it to increase to 193 km. The brand specifies that it is entirely possible to configure the characteristics of the engine.

We recently tested this type of optimization on a gravel Trek. If the philosophy is similar, then you will be able to play as you wish on the overall autonomy of your machine, by playing with the assistance provided. In this case, the theoretical autonomy announced can be achieved without any problem.

The Specialized application provides a whole bunch of useful functions. With it, you can “record your journeys, personalize your screens, track your data, sync with other apps and even thwart would-be thieves with the Turbo system’s automatic lock“, we can read.
