A capsule spacecraft carrying three passengers has landed in an isolated region of Kazakhstan. Unfortunately, the trio had to spend 371 days in space to complete their 180-day mission. American NASA astronaut Frank Rubio and Russia’s Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitry Petalin returned on Thursday.

Frank Rubio also holds the record for the longest time spent in space by an American. The world record is held by a Russian cosmonaut who spent 437 days. The trio reached the International Space Station in September 2022 in the Soyuz capsule probe. There, the probe’s radiator was damaged and people were unable to move. Due to this, the three got stuck in the space station.
If the radiator had traveled in a damaged spacecraft, the temperature would have been uncontrollable and the risk of an accident would have increased. That is why they were kept in the space station and brought back only by the spacecraft. After Russia built a new Soyuz spacecraft and reached there two weeks ago, the three were able to reach the earth.
Rubio responded that he was happy to be back on Earth and that the mental strain of spending so much time in space was more than expected. Rubio was an army doctor and helicopter pilot. He also said that if he had known that he would have to spend a year, he would not have agreed to go.

On the return trip, Rubio and his crew experienced four times the gravity of normal Earth. Rubio and Petalin will travel to space for the first time. Prokopiev was the pilot of the probe. The team traveled a total of 253 million kilometers to and from the International Airport. A normal human being can travel that far only by circling the earth 6000 times.
