After another cycle of major updates to its operating systems, the Apple released today the first beta of iOS 17.1do iPadOS 17.1do macOS 14.1do watchOS 10.1 It’s from tvOS 17.1.
As always, we already know some new features that are candidates for implementation in future minor versions of OSes — in particular, iOS 17.1 and watchOS 10.1. We will have new features in apps such as Music, Podcasts and Books, as well as the arrival of some highly anticipated features.
Let’s check out the main news?!
Music
In iOS 17.1, the Music app gained a draft for a new feature that will allow you to also mark a certain song, album or playlist as a favorite (currently, it is only possible to favorite artists).
According to Apple, songs marked as favorites will be added to a new playlist (not yet available), which will be called “Favorite Songs”. They will count points for Apple Music’s recommendation algorithm, of course.
Replacing the current “Like” option, the new button will appear on the “Now Playing” screen and even on the locked screen, so that a song marked as favorite will automatically be added to the Library.
Another cool new feature for the app is the addition of a library of designs that can be used as artwork for playlists. The name of the list will be automatically added to the art, giving it a look similar to that of the service’s official playlists.
AirDrop
Apple has finally added the ability to complete file transfer via AirDrop via the internet in cases where devices are not close enough for a Bluetooth transfer.
Promised by Apple in the announcement of iOS 17, the feature will make it possible to activate the option in Settings to use mobile data to complete these transfers — an option in addition to Wi-Fi network connectivity.
Portfolio
Although it is now possible to view the history of individual transactions for a given card in the app Portfolio (Wallet)iOS 17.1 also added (for now, only in the United Kingdom), the possibility of viewing the balance of a bank account or the limit of a credit card without having to open the bank’s application in question.
Podcasts
With a major interface renovation (which became more similar to the Music app) in iOS 17, the app Podcasts will fix a bug in iOS 17.1 that prevents episode art from displaying in full screen during playback.
NameDrop no Apple Watch
Already available on iPhones since the launch of iOS 17, the NameDrop will finally work on Apple Watches in watchOS 10.1 as well. The feature, it is worth remembering, allows you to easily exchange Contact Posters just by bringing two devices together.
Books
No app Books (Books)the “Reading Now” section has been renamed to “Read Now” — which makes the app follow the pattern of similar sections in other apps (such as “Listen Now” in Music and “Watch Now” in TV).
What hasn’t arrived yet?
One of the biggest promises for the current version of iOS, the app Daily (Journal) It’s not expected to launch in iOS 17.1 yet, but mentions of it in the code indicate its arrival won’t be long in coming. There are also mentions in the code of double-tap gesture (double tap gesture) for Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 in watchOS 10.1 code, but the function remains inaccessible. In the Music app, the option to create a shared playlist, as well as react to playing songs using emojis, remains unavailable.
As always, we will continue to monitor any new discoveries in the new systems!
