Analyzing the Slowdown in Credit Growth: August 2023 Monetary Statistics

This deceleration in the growth of credit to the SNF reflects the drop in loans to private non-financial companies of 1.4%, following an increase of 0.9%, credits to public non-financial companies and to households having experienced an acceleration in their progression respectively from 34.9% to 36.3% and from 2.4% to 2.7%, indicates BAM in its bulletin on monetary statistics for the month of August 2023.

By economic purpose, the evolution of bank assistance to the SNF reflects the accentuation of the drop in cash flow facilities of 4.8% following 0.8%, in connection with the decline in those allocated to private companies to 10.6% following 5.6%, as well as the acceleration of equipment loans from 5.6% to 6.1%, with an increase in those allocated to public companies of 13.5% and a slight slowdown in those to companies private at 4.1%.

It is also the stagnation of consumer loans at 1% and real estate loans at 1.7%. Regarding overdue debts, their growth rate fell from 6.4% in July to 6.2% in August 2023, and their credit ratio stood at 8.9% following 8.8%.
