After this Wednesday the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, announced a sixth extension to the deadline for the legalization of chocolate cars, the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA) disapproved of the decision and accused corruption around the decree .
The decree will legalize what is illegal for 3 more months, said the association that brings together sellers of more than 62 car brands.
From March 1, until September 26, the decree has allowed 1,803,058 chocolate cars to obtain license plates, an amount that almost 100,000 units exceeds the registration of new units sold in a similar period.
According to the SSPC, regularization contributes to improving public safety by including these vehicles in the Public Vehicle Registry (Repuve), which allows the owners to be identified and prevent their use in illicit activities.
However, Guillermo Rosales Zárate, executive president of the AMDA, rejected the argument in statements offered this day and even accused corruption: “The justification for extending such a decree is that these units are not used in illicit activities when in reality criminals mostly use stolen recent model vehicles.”
“And this without mentioning the corruption that continues to prevail by officials at all levels to allow illegal entry into the country, circulation in urban areas and roads under federal jurisdiction, as well as sales in flea markets and city streets,” he denounced.

The head of Citizen Security highlighted that the collection of 1.8 million cars has resulted in the collection of more than 4,507 million pesos, funds that are allocated to paving streets in different states of the country.
Rodríguez Velázquez also highlighted that the effort not only contributes to improving transportation routes, but also technological and security improvements are made in the hologram of the Public Vehicle Registry (Repuve) to strengthen vehicle identification.
