The Assize Court heard the parents of the accused’s husband, civil parties to the trial, on Wednesday. Quickly, the mother put the church back in the middle of the village. “There has never been a sudden death on my side, nor on my husband’s side,” replied the accused, who mentioned, during the investigation, several cases of sudden death in her husband’s family.
The couple’s son met the accused on the internet. He introduced her to his parents. The mother told him that Madissone Massy was not a girl for him. However, she respected her son’s choice and welcomed the accused into her home. The witness adds that Madissone’s mother did “police” research on her son, to find out if he was a thug. “From the moment he met Madissone, my son changed a lot.”
Cohabitation
The accused and her husband lived with the couple. The first weeks went well, but little by little, the atmosphere quickly deteriorated. “She got up without greeting us. One day, my son decided to no longer share our meals, to eat later with his wife. Concerning the cleaning, I did it early in the morning while the accused got up later. Finally, she spread the rumor that I wasn’t taking care of my granddaughter and grandson, my daughter’s children. She repeated everywhere that she was the one who took care of my grandchildren”.
The accused also allegedly stated that her father-in-law was violent with his wife. “He never raised a hand once morest me or my children. He wasn’t violent when he threw him out either. He told her, tomorrow you go back to your mother because I don’t want you in my house anymore.” The husband confirms, and specifies that he had not consumed alcohol. He was only annoyed by his daughter-in-law’s passive attitude.
Contact broken
Contact has been broken with their son, which makes his parents sad. They went to the wedding, to the deceased granddaughter’s funeral, but not to Enzo’s funeral. “She texted me. It was written, we are going to get married. If you want to come, you are welcome. If not, too bad. Madissone’s mother criticized us for not having contributed to the wedding costs. We refused because we were certain that it was a forced marriage. My son also told me that he had no choice.” After the marriage, contact was broken off.
The civil parties are awaiting the judicial truth. “We want to know what happened. We are not asking for anything, no compensation. We speak with our hearts as grandparents.”
The accused explains her smile by “lies”. She clarifies that this is not the place to settle scores.
The poignant testimony of the sister
The court then heard the daughter of the civil parties. “We were very close with my brother. This breakup was complicated to live with, a few months following the death of his daughter. He told me I was no longer part of his family. I respected his choice and his request. It’s very hard to no longer call him my brother, to not be able to help him,” says the sister of the accused’s husband.
The young woman says that her brother sent her an SMS in February 2018, informing her that he was going to do something stupid. He seemed exhausted. She met him the next morning. “He told me he was lost, that he was stupid, that he shouldn’t get married. I felt completely lost. He told me that he was bound by his duties as a husband, because his mother-in-law had invested in their house”.
The day Enzo died, July 22, 2019, she received a call from her brother. “He told me, the little one is dead. I hope you are happy. I don’t want to see you at the funeral and at the funeral home. You will tell your mother and your brother. He hung up. It was brutal”.
She says that Madissone Massy’s mother threatened to burn down her house and that she posted her face on social networks, calling her a “bitch”. This woman also allegedly forbade him from going to the cemetery.
The accused still laughs and declares that these are lies “as part of a settling of family scores”.
On bad terms with his brother
The brother of the accused’s husband was already on bad terms with his brother at the time of the children’s deaths. “The problem started with the accused. Before, things were going very well between us. I wanted to clarify a few points with him, face to face, but it was never possible, because he was never alone”. The witness claims that his brother was clearly under the influence of his wife, whom he describes as “a fake person”. The witness says that the accused was sowing trouble between him and his sister. His ex-wife confirms his statement.
Me Fabrice Guttadauria notes that the ex-sister-in-law used grating terms to define the accused: manipulative, hypocritical, lazy… She confirms her statement. “Her husband was never the same following he met her.”
She swore she didn’t do anything
Little Enzo’s godmother says that the father broke off contact with them because she had placed flowers on the child’s grave. The flowers went in the trash. This lady made a collection to offer a vault for the children. A bank account had been opened in the children’s name. The money, more than 4,500 euros, was transferred to the father’s account. “I went to see Madissone in the visiting room. I asked her if she had done anything to her son. She swore to me that she had done nothing.”
The witness was told by police that the child’s death was suspicious. “She told me, you’ll see, everything will fall on me. I asked her the question once more, she told me she hadn’t done anything. Today, I feel injustice on the part of the father and the accused. I am being prevented from visiting the children’s graves.” The witness thinks that it is the accused who has influence over her husband, and not the other way around.
On Monday, the accused admitted to having smothered her child. “I don’t know how to describe such a gesture. I can’t understand,” replied the witness, very moved.
