The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes’ Commission has announced the full program, discussion topics and names of some of the speakers for the 2023 International Athletes’ Forum, which will bring together more than 400 athlete representatives on October 1 and 2 in Lausanne. , Swiss.
Before getting to the heart of the matter, a day of preparation will take place on September 30 with the IOC Athletes’ Commission holding meetings with the Athletes’ Commissions of the organizing committees of the Paris 2024 and LA28 Games as well as the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Day 1: athlete support programs and contribution of athletes to the life of their communities
The first day of the forum, hosted by British Olympian and presenter Jeanette Kwakye, will begin on Sunday October 1 at 9 a.m. (Central European Time). The first topic covered will be a presentation of the work recently carried out by the IOC Athletes’ Commission as well as its updated strategy. Recommendations for International Federations and organizers of international sporting events regarding the participation of athletes with Russian or Belarusian passports in international competitions as neutral individual athletes will be presented by the IOC Athletes’ Commission and discussed by forum participants in the followingnoon. Two other round tables will focus on support for athletes and the theme of the contribution of athletes to the life of their communities.
The Olympic Movement’s funding model and the programs available to support them through the IOC, including those implemented by Olympic Solidarity, Athlete365 and global Olympic partners, will also be on the agenda. A final discussion on how athletes can contribute to causes they care regarding during and following their careers will close the first day.
Second day: next editions of the Olympic Games and question-and-answer session with IOC President Thomas Bach
The second day of the forum will begin with an informal discussion between IOC Athletes’ Commission member Pau Gasol, Olympic ski champion Lindsey Vonn and Olympic track and field champion Allyson Felix, with the three sports legends exploring what it means for them the fact of being an Olympian, an Olympian.
The first roundtable will then cover the next editions of the Olympic Games, where the issue of athlete experience will be addressed. This will be followed by a second round table which will examine the importance of clean sport, with representatives from WADA and the International Testing Agency (ITA), and the prevention of competition manipulation.
