The Impact of Game Delays: Examining Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden’s Postponement and its Effect on the Gaming Industry

Remedy was one of the first studios to speak out when they delayed Alan Wake 2 because they didn’t want to compete with other highly anticipated games. The Finnish studio was quickly followed by the honest souls of Pieces Interactive, who are pushing Alone in the Dark towards 2024. Now it’s time for game three. Don’t Nod and Focus Entertainment have announced that Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden has been postponed from November 7, 2023 to February 13, 2024. They claim that the game is basically complete, but it won’t be able to shine if it’s released at the same time as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Alan Wake 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Super Mario RPG. And everything else launches in late October and early November. In an interesting decision, it’s been less than two months since we got the original date, and most of the dates we’ve received since then have come from Nintendo, while Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden isn’t even coming to Switch. Still, most of us don’t have unlimited money, so it’s a very understandable decision… until you realize that as of this writing February is set to feature Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Helldivers II, Persona 3 Reload, and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth… Do you think this delay will say anything regarding Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden?
